Doha: A delegation from Qatar Red Crescent (QRC), led by Secretary-General Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi, participated in a three-day Nepal Earthquake Planning Meeting, signed an MoU with Nepal Red Cross and visited QRC relief staff in the country.
He was received by Qatari Ambassador Ahmed Jassim Al Hamar, Nepalese officials, and representatives of local relief organisations.
Al Hamar praised QRC’s professional and prompt response to the disaster. Al Mohannadi thanked the Qatari embassy for support to facilitate QRC’s mission and remove any logistical difficulties, serving Qatar’s humanitarian efforts to support the Nepalese people in distress.
The opening ceremony of the meeting was attended by the Nepalese foreign minister, Nepal’s representative to the UN, the president and secretary-general of Nepal Red Cross, representatives of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, International Committee of the Red Cross and local and international guest speakers.
The meeting reviewed the impact of the disaster, relief achievements and challenges and a blueprint for future intervention.
Al Mohannadi met officials and highlighted QRC operations there. He signed an MoU with Nepal Red Cross to form a legal framework for future QRC work in the country.
Al Mohannadi also visited QRC’s medical unit in Nuwakot and the Qatari embassy.
QRC has so far provided humanitarian assistance for 217,755 people. A QR22m plan is under study to distribute shelter packages to 1,776 families and build 1,500 households, 46 schools and four hospitals.
