Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of condolences to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the death of HRH Princess Madhawi bint Mishaal bin Abdulaziz.
Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani also sent a cable of condolences to King Salman.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar cable to King Salman.
Leaders condole with Erdogan
Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following the death of former president Suleyman Demirel.
Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani also sent a cable of condolences to Erdogan.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a similar cable to Erdogan.
Emir’s message given to Cameron
London: British Prime Minister David Cameron received a written message from Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on relations between the two friendly countries. Qatari Ambassador Yousef bin Ali Al Khater handed the message as he met Nick Perry, Special Secretary to Cameron.
Ministry holds rights meeting
DOHA: The Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior held a meeting with officers at detention centres.
Participants were briefed on mechanism adopted by the department to endorse its fundamental functions to ensure protection human rights of prisoners and detainees, said Lieutenant Colonel Saad Salim Al Dousari, Assistant Director of the department.
He said Act No. 26 of 2005, establishing the department, was tasked with receiving, reviewing and investigating complaints of human rights violations to the ministry by individuals.
He said the department has taken initiatives to develop a monitoring mechanism to revise and conduct survey at detention places and penal institutions to be more adapted to national and international standards.
He urged officers to participate in the evaluation survey at the detention places in the security departments as a first stage to be followed by discussion on survey results to take further procedures.
Dr Osama Sabith Al Alousi, Legal Adviser at the department, spoke about the mechanism to monitor and evaluate human rights conditions of prisoners and detainees.
