Doha, Qatar: President of the brotherly Federal Republic of Somalia, H E President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, called on Qatari businessmen to visit Somalia and explore the investment opportunities which the country offers in all economic sectors.
The Somali president said in his meeting with the Qatari Businessmen Association, which was attended by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman, in the presence of H E Deputy Prime Minister Saleh Ahmed Juma, H E Elmi Mohamed Nour, Minister of Finance, and H E Hussein Sheikh Mahmoud, Director of the President’s office in addition to H E Ron Saeed Qarsheen, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Somalia to Qatar, that the various economic sectors such as the agricultural, commercial, real estate and industrial sectors are open for investments, whether in partnership with the government or the Somali private sector.
From QBA, the meeting was also attended by Saud Al Mana, QBA board member and from QBA members Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad, Nabil Abu Issa, Abdullah Al Kubaisi, Maqbool Khalfan and Yousef Al Mahmoud, as well as Sarah Abdullah, Deputy General Manager attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud said that the two countries have distinguished and strong relations in several areas, saying that he expects these relations to witness greater cooperation in the future. He also added that Qatar focused on developmental projects that would benefit the Somali people and contribute to the local economy, explaining that the most prominent examples are the implementation of the Mogadishu-Afgoi road project and the Mogadishu-Jawhar project, which are two roads linking the capital with a number of cities, in addition to the Contribution of the State of Qatar to the rehabilitation and construction of the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the construction and rehabilitation of the Mogadishu municipality building, as well as other projects.
The President also mentioned the numerous visits between the two countries, where he said that he is visiting Doha for the third time in a row after attending the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, followed by a second visit last March to participate in the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, so that the current visit is the third and most important as it reflects the depth of bilateral relations.
President Hassan Alsheikh stated that his country is focusing on youth, as Qatar has contributed significantly to projects to eradicate illiteracy, educating around 300,000 students, and another project to economically empower Somali youth and provide them with job opportunities in the fishing sector, benefiting from Somalia extended coasts.
For his part, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association, said that Qatar and Somalia have strong historical relations.
These relations are based on mutual respect, understanding and collaboration, noting that Qatar plays an important role in implementing many vital development, reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in Somalia, such as building roads and other vital infrastructure projects, and also supports economic empowerment programs and job creation. For youth in Somalia, it has also implemented many developmental and sustainable projects that include building schools, hospitals and the health care sector development in general.
Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani also welcomed the invitation of the Somali President to visit the country with a delegation of Qatari businessmen to study the investment opportunities in Mogadishu in the fields of real estate, insurance, tourism, agriculture and other investment sectors.
It is worth mentioning that the Republic of Somalia seeks to attract Qatari investors to set up projects that can support development in the country and create job opportunities for its youth and children.
There are many sectors that can be invested in, especially agricultural projects, livestock and fisheries, since Somalia has coasts that extend for more than 3,700 kilometers, which makes it one of the longest coastlines in the world.
