DOHA: The Authority for regulating charities has clarified that the unified bank account for charitable bodies in the country was limited to the Nepal relief campaign and the Authority has no plans to make it a permanent feature.
Quoting Al Sharq, The Peninsula yesterday reported that the Authority was planning to set up a unified bank account for all charitable organisations in Qatar to effectively monitor their financial transactions.
Reacting to the report, Talal Sabah Al Abdallah, Director of the monitoring and supervision department at the Authority told Al Sharq that that there was no plan to set up a permanent unified bank account.
The Authority launched a unified account for the ongoing Nepal relief campaign to receive donations. Besides this main account, there are separate accounts for each charitable body participating in the campaign.
He said the Authority’s role was limited to financial monitoring to make sure the donations are spent properly.
Every charitable organisation has its independent bank account and it is not administratively possible or reasonable to set up a unified account, he added.
