Doha: During an inspection campaign in Umm Salal, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry seized a car maintenance service centre for falsely marking used oils as new.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry caught the violation at the car maintenance service centre during an inspection campaign, aimed at monitoring compliance with Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection.
The centre refilled used oil in containers marked as new oil, a practice that is in violation of Article No. (6) of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection: “No defective or adulterated commodity shall be sold, displayed, presented, promoted, or advertised. The commodity shall be deemed to be adulterated or defective where it does not conform to the prescribed standard specifications, is unfit for use, or has expired."
The inspection campaign comes as part of the Ministry's efforts to protect consumer rights; monitor markets and commercial activities across Qatar; control prices; and detect abuses and commodities that are falsified, counterfeit, or non-conforming to standard specifications.
The Ministry stressed that it would not tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its executive bylaws.
The Ministry is also working to intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices, and to refer violators of laws and Ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take respective measures.
