Doha: Agatha Zielinshi and Noreen Hussaini walked away with the top honours in the women’s section of the ‘Swim for a Cause’ open water swimming challenge held at Sharq Village and Spa Beach.
Zielinshi topped in the 500m while Hussaini finished the 1000m in the first place.
Both the races witnessed keen rivalry between the two swimmers. Zielinshi pushed Hussaini to the second spot in the 500m while in the much longer race Hussaini proved her masterclass to win the event with Zielinshi having to settle for the runner-up spot.
In the 500m, Noraini Aliasha bagged the third place while Yulia Kononova came third in 1000m.
In the 250m race for girls, Qistna Mohamed Hisham took the top honours.
In the boys 250m, Alfonso Santiago bagged the winner’s spot followed by Alexander Winmpole.
In the men’s 500m, Danushka Hasanka bagged the top honours while, Hatem Alsafty took the second spot followed by Rayan Matinaz.
The men’s 1000m, turned out to be a keen contest between Nataniel Benares, Rafael Alves Patricio Da Costa and Mazen Atallah. Benares clocked the quickest time to cross the finish first followed by Da Costa and Atallah.
The event held in collaboration with Qatar Charity, while H2O swim club, MAD Triathlon and Tri Club Doha at the Sharq Village & Spa beach, aims to raise awareness of providing safe and clean drinking water for the needy in developing countries.
