Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) has opened a series of humanitarian projects with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) in the Bekaa, Lebanon.
Also, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the Chairman of KRCS, Dr. Helal Al-Sayer, and Head of QRCS's Mission in Lebanon, Omar Katerji. Then, they visited the new projects, accompanied by the officials of both Missions.
The tour was attended by a representative of the Lebanese Minister of Refugee Affairs, a representative of the Ambassador of Qatar to Lebanon, the chargé d'affaires of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Beirut, the Chief Doctor of Zahlé, representative of the Lebanese Red Cross, the Mayor of Majdal Anjar, and the Chairman of Ghiras Al-Khair Foundation.
First, the group inaugurated a mobile mammography clinic in Majdal Anjar, which offers a full range of services, from awareness to examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
Dr. Al-Sayer said the project is of key importance, as statistics show that one in eight women are prone to breast cancer. "This service will be addressed at women in remote refugee camps, to ensure early detection and high curability," he added.
According to the Kuwaiti chargé d'affaires, these joint projects are one more addition to the humanitarian track record of the partners.
The representative of the Qatari Ambassador noted that the projects are part of the ceaseless humanitarian support extended by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Majdal Anjar is a border village that hosts 40,000-45,000 Syrian refugees.
Later, the $70,000 agreement was signed at the Bekaa Hospital, Taanayel, to cover the costs of dialysis for 20 renal patients over three months. Also, kidney transplantations will be performed for more six months.
