Doha, Qatar: Qatar's Ministry of Public Health has intensified its efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

These efforts come in line with the National Health Strategy 2024-2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030, which place individual and family health at the centre of national priorities.

The ministry has organised an awareness workshop for parents of children with autism, focusing on healthy nutrition and the prevention of excess weight gain. The initiative was held in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation and the Renad Academy at Qatar Foundation.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of healthy eating habits for children with autism and to help parents address common nutritional challenges associated with the condition. It also highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition in preventing obesity and related health complications.

Officials said special attention was given to the unique dietary difficulties that children with autism may face, along with safe and practical ways to manage them.

The sessions also emphasised the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles, including regular physical activity, and improving understanding of nutrition-related issues linked to autism. Parents were provided with practical guidance on how to support their children in developing sustainable and healthy eating habits.

The Ministry of Public Health said such initiatives form part of a broader strategy to promote inclusive healthcare and comprehensive support for people with autism and their families.
