Qatar Charity project has provided people in Garut city with easy access to clean drinking  water.

DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has dug 350 drinking  water wells in Garut city of Indonesia. Garut is in West Java province and capital of Garut Regency.
There was a severe shortage of clean water, only a meagre 12 percent of total population had access to safe drinking water. Some 2.5 million people live in the city, QC said in a statement.
The project cost QR1.75m. An agreement between QC and the mayor of Garut was signed by the end of last year to launch the project and drill 350 wells by this September. QC has been working in Indonesia for 10 years and has spent over $30m (over QR100m) on projects, the statement said, adding an education centre worth QR2.19m was also built in the country.
Several other projects were also launched to provide livelihood for needy families. Tailoring machines and transport vehicles were also distributed. Some families received cows for breading. So far, 12,000 families have benefitted.
