The ribbon represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and the charitable goodness of people and businesses who publicly support the breast cancer movement. It aims to evoke solidarity with women who have breast cancer.
According to National Centre for Cancer Care and Research, breast cancer is one of the most common among women in Qatar with an incidence ratio of 50/100,000.
Data suggest that one case among locals and three among residents are diagnosed in Qatar every week. The incidence in Qatar is high compared with pertinent rates in the GCC and the rest of the world. World Health Organisation’s data shows the incidence in Qatar approximates that of Kuwait and Bahrain and is higher than the rates in Saudi Arabia and Oman.
