Doha: Qatar’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) for July 2022 stood at 104.5 points, showing an increase of 4.8 percent compared to the previous month (June 2022). When compared year-on-year (Y-o-Y) basis, the IPI index has also increased by 7.8 percent, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) showed yesterday.
The PSA has issued a new version of the report on IPI for July 2022, calculated using 2018 as a base year. By changing the base year, the relative weight of main economic sectors under this indicator were also changed to: “Mining” (82.46 percent), “Manufacturing” (15.85 percent), “Electricity production” (1.16 percent), and “Water production” (0.53 percent). This indicator is a short-term quantitative index that measures the changes in the volume of productions of a selected basket of industrial products over a given period with respect to that in a chosen period called the base period, it studies and analyses the economic level of the State, and the growth of various industrial sectors in economy index details.
The index of the “Mining” sector showed an increase of 5.4 percent compared to the previous month (June 2022), as a result of the increase in the quantities of “Crude oil petroleum and natural gas” with the same percentage, while “Other mining and quarrying” increased by 1.3 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2021), the IPI of Mining increased by 8.5 percent.
The index of the “Manufacturing” sector showed an increase of 1.7 percent compared to the previous month (June 2022) as a result of the increase in “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 5.4 percent, followed by “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 2.6 percent, and “Manufacture of basic metals” by 0.5 percent. However, a decrease was recorded in “Manufacture of Cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 6.8 percent, “Manufacture of beverages” by 3.3 percent, “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 3.1 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 2.0 percent, and “Manufacture of food products” by 1.9 percent.
On the other hand, in terms of annual change, comparing to July 2021, an increase of 4.8 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 14.7 percent, “Manufacture of beverages” by 12.7 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 6.6 percent, “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 6.1 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 5.6 percent, and “Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 0.2 percent. However, a decrease was recorded in “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 9.1 percent, and “Manufacture of basic metals” by 7.4 percent.
The index of the “Electricity and gas supply” sector showed an increase of 7.5 percent in the production of “Electricity” between July 2022 and the previous month (June 2022), while the annual increase (comparing with July 2021), was 4.3 percent.
The index of the “Water supply” sector showed an increase of 1.7 percent in the production of “Water’’ between July 2022 and the previous month (June 2022). When compared Y-o-Y, the Water group increased by 27.1 percent.
