Doha, Qatar: Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) has organised an awareness lecture on acquiring life-skills. The lecture was presented by the Psychologist Tariq Al Issawy as part of QSCCB's summer activities.
QSCCB Chairman Faisal Muhammad Al Kooheji affirmed that QSCCB strives to upgrade the skills of its male and female affiliates with visual impairments from various age categories, including development of skills that are pertinent to life- skills which help them integrate into the community.
He added that QSCCB seeks to host a contingent of trainers and consultants from a variety of fields, including mental health, because of its importance in the development of persons with visual impairments’ life, as well as curb challenges that could face their integration into the community, whether in schools, workplace, or various life fields.
For his part, Tariq Al Issawy said one of the critical elements of acquiring life-skills is the fact that a person should be more independent, self-dependent and more capable of expressing his/her feelings, finding an appropriate job after graduation and more capable of managing any project.
Al Issawy highlighted multiple skills a person should acquire, including project management skills, empathy skills, cooperation skills, skills of being approachable, innovative thinking and communication with others. Life-skills are the most critical problems that should be promptly solved, he said, pointing out that psychological and personal skills help persons take a well-thought-out decision to communicate with others and develop adaptation to surrounding conditions and self-management that ultimately leads to progress and success.
