7.5 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Solomon Islands

SYDNEY: A tsunami alert for coastal areas near the Solomon Islands has been issued after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the region.
The tremor struck around 75km west-north-west of the city of Lata at around 12:27pm today (AEST) at a shallow depth of 10km.
There is no word yet on damage or injuries.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued the warning for a 300km-radius from the epicentre.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no immediate tsunami threat to Australia.
