Qatar consumer price index decreases in April

Doha, Qatar: The Public Statistics Authority in Qatar released the consumer price index for April 2023. The index reached 105.2 points, down 0.03% from March 2023.

The decline from the previous month’s price index occurred in seven categories, including transportation (2.29%), clothing and shoes group (1.05%), education (0.94%), restaurants and hotels (0.074%), health (0.25%), communications (0.21%), and food and beverage (0.19%.)

Compared to April of 2022, there was an increase in the general index by 3.68%, which resulted from an increase in eight groups, among which were entertainment and culture (15.34%), housing, water, electricity and gas group by (7.72%), furniture and home appliances (2.87%), clothing and shoes (2.49%), food and beverage (1.71%), education (1.64%), health 1.41%, and the transportation group by 0.60%.

According to Asharq, the prices of goods and services in Qatar reached their peak last September, when they rose by more than 6% on an annual basis.

Inflation in Qatar slowed on an annual basis as well, being recorded at 3.68%, compared to 4% in March.

Asharq reports that global economies have been suffering from increased inflation rates since the beginning of last year, in light of the Ukraine war’s impact on energy and food prices, and the effect of monetary easing made to address the COVID-19 pandemic, which was reflected in consumption rates around the world.
