Awareness event on dangers of drugs held

The Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs yesterday held the closing ceremony of the awareness programme, “Ambassadors of prevention” organised by the committee under the theme “You are leader… be a model”.
The awareness programme was organised to make the public aware of the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Director General of Public Security and the Chairman of the Drug and Alcohol Committee, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi attended the event.
The Director General of Public Security honoured the participants in the awareness programme and winners of the art competitions held for primary and secondary school students.
He pointed out that the awareness programme was a successful result of the collaboration between the Committee and other official bodies in the State. The programme included different training activities for students, specialised training courses and courses for Imams of Mosques in addition to art contests for preparatory and primary students and scientific research completion for secondary students.
He expressed his hope that the collaborative programme would help in spreading awareness of the dangers of addiction and protecting all segments of society from the dangers of the scourge and contribute greatly to increasing their awareness and concern about the risks of drugs.
The students of Al Khor Independent Secondary school Sarah Majid al Noaimi, Fatima Ahmad Al Mohannadi and Haya Muhammad Al Mohannadi won the first place in research competition. The students of Umm Hakim Secondary School for Girls Lali Lari, Maryam Hashim and students of Hassan bin Thabit Secondary School Muhammad Lari, Muhammad Samih won the second and third places respectively.
