DOHA: An Arab expatriate died and three others, including an Indian, were injured when a crane collapsed at a construction site near the Air Force Intersection on F-Ring Road yesterday morning.
The deceased in his late 20s is an employee of the construction company which owns the crane, according to sources.
Those injured in the incident were two Egyptians and an Indian. One of the Egyptians is in critical condition and is being treated at the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU) of Hamad General Hospital (HGH).
The victims were rushed to the hospital by an ambulance team of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The Indian has undergone a surgery, while the other Egyptian also remains admitted at the hospital, said a source.
The crane toppled over between the Ahmed Al Ahmed intersection and the Air Force intersection causing heavy traffic congestion in the area and a partial road closure. The reason for the collapse was not known yesterday.
“An accident led to partial closure of the road from Air Force signal to Parachute signal, authorities are taking procedures to ensure traffic flow,” the Ministry of Interior said on its Twitter account yesterday. The ministry, however, didn’t disclose any further details.
