KIEV: A Ukrainian court ruled on Monday that two Russian servicemen, captured in Ukrainian territory last May, were guilty of charges including preparing "an act of terror" related to the pro-Russian separatist conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Russia denies sending troops to help rebel fighters and says Alexander Alexandrov and his commander, Captain Yevgeny Yerofeyev, had quit their special forces unit to take part in the conflict on their own.

Their case has garnered extra attention because of Ukraine's wish to exchange the servicemen for Ukrainians detained in Russia, including pilot Nadezhda Savcheko.
