Doha, Qatar: The sports competitions organised by Safari Group in connection with Qatar National Sports Day concluded with enthusiastic public participation. Hundreds of sports lovers took part in the events held across various Safari outlets on February 10th.
The main attraction, the arm wrestling competition, was held at Safari Mall, Abu Hamour. Athletes from various countries joined the event through spot registration which began at 4pm. The matches, which commenced at 5pm, provided an exhilarating experience for both spectators and participants alike.
This year marked the seventh season of the arm wrestling competition, an event Safari Group has been hosting for several years.
In this season, more than 100 participants competed across two categories (under 80kg and above 80kg). Expatriates from various countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Egypt, the Philippines, Algeria, Nigeria, and Jordan, participated in this sporting spectacle. The event was coordinated by Mujeeb, Sajjad, Sayeed, Jubil, Nijo, and Faisal.
Attractive cash prizes were awarded to the winners. In Category A (for those weighing under 80 kg), Salim Hechaichi from Algeria secured the first position, winning 2,500 Qatari Riyals. In the same category, Jobin Sebastian from India won second place (1,500 QR), and Rinto Jose from India secured third place (1,000 QR) with an impressive performance. In Category B (for those weighing above 80 kg), where the “clash of the titans” took place, Md Razi from India clinched the first prize of 2,500 Qatari Riyals. Davis Chinenye Akid from Nigeria secured the second prize (QR1,500), and Hadi Abu Sara won the third prize (QR1,000.
In addition to arm wrestling, the ‘Hang On Balance’ competition held at Safari Mall (Abu Hamour), Safari Hypermarket (Al Khor), Barakat Al Awamir, and Ezdan Mall (Al Gharafa) which also turned out to be a huge success. Many people arrived to test their physical fitness in this competition, which ran from 9am to 10pm. Winners of this event were awarded Safari shopping vouchers.
