Doha, Qatar: As the holy month of Ramadan began, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) initiated the activities of its annual Ramadan Campaign under the theme "Keep Your Balance of Good Deeds Alive," the drive involves numerous humanitarian projects and charitable initiatives to be implemented in Qatar and 17 other countries, thanks to the generous contributions of Qatari and non-Qatari donors.
Managing Director, Secretary-General of QRCS, Eng. Ibrahim bin Hashem Al Sada said: "This year, Ramadan comes at a critical time for the region and the whole world, with alarmingly escalating tensions and crises that threaten safe and stable communities and worsen things for the communities that have long been affected by natural disasters and armed conflicts."
Eng. Al Sada stated: " As usual every year, QRCS's Ramadan Campaign is divided into two main parts. The first part focuses on Ramadan Iftar projects, with one-month Ramadan food parcels containing local food staples distributed to families (an average of six persons per family), to help those in need find Iftar and Suhoor meals".
He noted, "QRCS plans to distribute Ramadan food parcels to more than 300,000 people in 18 countries. Several categorised are available as follows: QR 500 (Qatar); QR 475 (Gaza); QR 385 (Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Afghanistan, the West Bank, Chad, Tanzania, and Djibouti; and QR 255 (Yemen, Niger, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Jordan, Mauritania, Albania, Kazakhstan, and Uganda).
For the third consecutive year, QRCS is implementing the On-the-Go Ramadan Iftar initiative, which has Lulu Hypermarket as a sponsor and Katara Cultural Village as a partner".
During the holy month of Ramadan, QRCS volunteers will be stationed at Katara to distribute light Iftar meals to the visitors of the Cannon area, as well as to the drivers passing by during Iftar time. Every day, 350 meals will be distributed, or 10,000 meals throughout Ramadan.
A recently launched Ramadan initiative is Hearo Meals, which enables talabat customers to donate meals to riders directly through the app.
The participating restaurants will offer specially curated meal options, so that customers can support riders by adding a Hero Meal to their order in just a few taps.
The donated meals will be distributed to riders, offering a simple and meaningful way for customers to show appreciation during the holy month of Ramadan.
Other local Ramadan-bound projects include (1) Ramadan Iftar and Zakat projects for the benefit of 1,500 families, or 6,000 people, registered with social assistance programs; (2) multiple distributions of food parcels, dates, and in-kind aid under the Stand Together program; and (3) the "Joy of Eid" initiative, with a total of 10,000 beneficiaries from expatriate workers.
The second part of the Ramadan Campaign comprises year-round humanitarian and development projects. QRCS seeks to mobilize community support to implement nearly 190 food security, shelter, education, health care, medical convoys, water and sanitation, livelihoods, and other humanitarian projects.
In Qatar, QRCS will continue to implement permanent development programs, designed to support vulnerable social groups, including Relief for Those Heavily in Debt, Support for Orphans and Disabilities, Treatment for Patients, Relief from Distress for Families and Individuals, Support for Students with Disability, Clothing for Children, and My Wish.
Internationally, the number of beneficiaries of planned humanitarian and development projects throughout the year amounts to 6.7 victims of disasters and crises in Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Somalia, Niger, Sudan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Mauritania.
