Geneva: Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva H E Dr. Hend bint Abdalrahman Al Muftah participated in a meeting of the Support Group of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva.
In her remarks, Her Excellency affirmed that the State of Qatar, as the host country of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2028, looks forward to ensuring that this important global gathering is successful, impactful, and inclusive.
She noted that the platform comes at a highly critical moment, as the world faces increasingly complex and interconnected risks, ranging from climate-related hazards to technological and biological challenges, which makes the need to strengthen disaster risk reduction more urgent than ever.
She pointed out that convening the platform just two years before the conclusion of the implementation period of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2030 makes it a pivotal opportunity to assess progress achieved, accelerate implementation, and reinforce global solidarity.
She explained that the State of Qatar’s contribution extends beyond its strong political commitment and includes its extensive experience in hosting major multilateral events, providing logistical and technical services, and organizing conferences at the highest level.
