Al Qahtani corners Big Tour glory

Popular Qatari rider Awad Al Qahtani yesterday produced a slick routine with Cassander Van Het Bremhof to corner the Big Tour glory on the final day of the Round 4 of Hathab Series.

Al Qahtani clocked a time of 59.12 seconds in the 130-140cm class at Al Shaqab Arena, which was hosting the fourth round of the hugely popular series. Al Qahtani bagged the top prize of QR 7,500.

Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi, also an experienced rider, grabbed the second spot with Vivaldi K, clocking a time of 55.04 seconds. Al Rumahi's time was competitive but Vivaldi K suffered because of 4 faults. Al Rumaihi won QR 6,000.

Hamad Nasser Al Qadi, who was astride St Lucia, finished in third spot. Al Qadi clocked a time of 55.23 seconds (4 faults) to secure the prize of QR 4,500. It was the second podium of the day for Al Qadi who earlier won competition 5 with ease.

Nasser Al Ghazali (Quel Homme, 55.33 seconds, 4 faults, QR3,000) and Rashid Towaim Al Marri (Chupa Chups 12, 57.49 seconds, 4 faults, QR 2,100) completed the top five.

"It was an amazing competition. There were very good riders in this class. I am happy Cassander managed a clean routine," Al Qahtani said.

Earlier in the Medium Tour, popular Qatar rider Al Qadi entered the field with new ride Galwaybay Merbreaker and still emerged as the champion in the 120-130cm class at Al Shaqab.  

The 22-year-old clocked a time of 32.52 seconds in the jump-off to seal his win with a flawless routine. Al Qadi won QR 5,000.

Qatar's Hussain Said Haidan, astride Colijn, finished in second place in a time of 32.83 seconds. Haidan won QR 4,000 for his fine routine.

Home talent Al Rumaihi, who was in the saddle with Viking D, finished in third place. Viking D clocked a time of 32.96 seconds. Al Rumaihi won QR 3,000.

Jaber Rashid Al Amri (Canavaro De Muze [ET], 33.08 seconds, QR 2,000) and Mohammed Taleb Al Saaq (Goldan, 30.59 seconds 4 faults, QR1,400) completed the top five in the 19-rider field.

"I am very happy. I got a new horse. He is great. He is 8 years old. I am sure I am going to keep competing with him for some more time," Al Qadi said.

"I felt confident going into the jump-off. There was no way that I was going to waste this opportunity to win. I am very pleased with my performance," he said.

Earlier in the dressage competition, Jessica Waldon produced a neat routine with Lusso Del Catsegno to claim the top prize with a score of 68.125. Jessica won QR 2,900 for her victorious performance in the six-entry field in the level 1 competition.

Iris Nijboer, astride Wait And See, secured the second spot with a score of 67.500. Iris won QR2,300 for her second-place finish.

Munira Mohammed Al Tamemi, astride Silvan, finished in third spot with a score 6.667. Munira took the prize of QR1,800.

Armando Lofrese (Judals Oasis, 62.083, QR1,250) and Saoud Ahmed Al Boinin (Velvet, 61.875, QR 950) completed the top five.

In the level 2 competition, AIsha Ahmed Al Ahmadi sealed her win with Rythm with a score of 72.222. Aisha won QR 2,075.

Mia Kardos finished in second place with Candyman (64.444). Mia won QR 1,625. Bente Pleijsier astride Galadriel Dream ended in third place (54.444, QR 1,300).
