Doha: The Kingdom of Bahrain has welcomed the signing of the Doha Framework for the Peace Agreement between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Congo River Alliance (M23 Movement).
In a statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the constructive mediation efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar that contributed to achieving this important step.
The Ministry stressed the importance of all parties adhering to the provisions of the agreement and resolving the conflict through comprehensive national dialogue. It further underscored the importance of working to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for peace, security, stability, and development, as well as facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance to all affected areas. Turkiye has also welcomed the signing of the Doha Framework Agreement.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry said the agreement marks a significant step towards achieving a lasting solution to the conflict in eastern DR Congo.
The statement praised Qatar’s efforts, along with those of all parties involved in supporting stability in the Great Lakes region.
Turkiye reaffirmed that it would continue to support all initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability across Africa. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also welcomed the signing of the agreement in Doha.
GCC Secretary-General H E Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi praised the significant and valuable efforts exerted by Qatar in hosting and supporting the negotiation process, noting that Qatar’s active contribution to achieving this important step underscores its firm commitment to promoting regional and international security and resolving conflicts through peaceful means. Jordan also welcomed the Doha Framework Agreement.
Jordan welcomes this vital accord, which contributes to achieving peace and stability for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, fulfils its people’s aspirations, and further bolsters conflict resolution through peaceful means, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry affirmed.
The ministry further hailed the efforts of Qatar and the United States in reaching the deal. The European Union also welcomed the signing of the agreement. In a post on the X platform, Anwar Al Anouni, spokesperson for the EU foreign affairs, said, “The EU welcomes the framework agreement for peace between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Congo River Alliance (March 23 Movement), signed in Doha, as a positive step toward durable peace in eastern DRC.”
He added: “We are grateful to Qatar for its commitment and diplomatic efforts.”
