Cairo: Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), in cooperation with the follow-up team to the International Conference on “Security Challenges and Human Rights in the Arab region” and the Arab Human Rights Committee, organised here a panel discussion on the recommendations of the conference, which was held in Doha last November, within mechanisms of the committee’s work .
Speaking at the opening session, Chairman of NHRC Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri said that the conference constitutes a great opportunity to exchange ideas, visions and deepen the dialogue for the realisation of security and human rights .
He noted that the conference’s recommendations were a qualitative leap in the history of the path of the development of Arab human rights system, the continuation of the dialogue between the security forces, civil society organisations and national human rights institutions.
Participants stressed the importance of benefiting from international experiences relevant to good practices as part of legal frameworks and measures that ensure respect of the human rights, combat terrorism, maintain national security in line with human rights conventions and international humanitarian law, that there be effective remedies against human rights violations and ensuring accountability of those responsible for these violations.
