Emir to hold talks with Trump on Tuesday

Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in New York City in the United States of America on Friday evening to take part in the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. During his visit, the Emir will also meet US President Donald Trump.
The Emir is accompanied by an official delegation, QNA reported. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also tweeted yesterday that the Emir will take part in the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 19 and will deliver speech at the opening session.
Despite siege countries’ efforts to damage Qatar-US historical and strategic ties, the meeting between the Emir and the US President will take place on Tuesday in New York.
The relations between Qatar and the US are based on mutual interests and confidence to serve the interests of both nations.
President Trump had said last week that he would be willing to mediate the worst dispute in decades between Qatar and US-allied Gulf states. Qatar and the United States have signed an agreement to help combat “terrorism financing” recently. The US and Qatar also have military and security cooperation and Qatar hosts the largest US military base in the region.
Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani yesterday said that the means to resolve the current Gulf crisis through engagement in diplomatic dialogue and regional and international issues were on top of the Emir’s visit to three European countries including Turkey, Germany and France. “GCC crisis and efforts to resolve it through diplomatic means, regional and international developments were at the top of the HH the Emir’s tour agenda”.
Meanwhile, commenting on the visit of the Emir to Turkey, Germany and France, the Government Communication Office Director H E Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, described the visits as “positive in all fields”. “H H the Emir concluded visits to three capitals. The positive results of the visits reflect the strong relationship between Qatar and our allies,” Sheikh Saif tweeted yesterday.
