Geneva: Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri, met yesterday with the UN Special Rapporteur Idriss Jazairy and briefed him on the negative impact of the unilateral coercive measures taken by the siege countries against the State of Qatar and the massive violations of human rights.

During the meeting, Dr Al Marri gave the Special Rapporteur all the reports and complaints that the NHRC has prepared so far as a result of the siege on the State of Qatar.

The NHRC Chairman said that the Committee has documented a large number of violations by the siege counties, which led to the prevention of Qatari citizens from travelling or checking on their property in those countries, causing loss of investments.

Dr Al Marri stressed the importance of activating the necessary mechanisms to strengthen accountability, whether through the United Nations or other competent organisations.

The Special Rapporteur promised to take the necessary measures in accordance with his terms of reference.
