Doha, Qatar: Taxpayers in Qatar can apply electronically for a reduction of financial penalties through the Dhareeba tax portal, with eligible applications potentially receiving a decision within minutes, the General Tax Authority (GTA) said.
In a social media post explaining the Financial Penalty Reduction Service, the GTA said applications are processed automatically and a decision may be issued within minutes if the approved eligibility criteria are met.
Before applying, taxpayers must have submitted all required tax returns, paid all outstanding taxes and met the eligibility requirements for the Financial Penalty Reduction Service.
The service is available to all taxpayers who meet the requirements, with each application assessed individually against the approved eligibility criteria. Applications are submitted entirely through the Dhareeba platform, without the need to visit the Authority.
The GTA also highlighted an important condition for approved applications: the reduced penalty must be paid within 30 days from the date of approval. If payment is not made within that period, the reduction will be cancelled and the penalty will revert to its original amount.
Only one financial penalty reduction request can be submitted for each penalty, according to the Authority.
The GTA said the electronic service is designed to allow taxpayers to submit requests through simple steps and benefit from fast electronic processing in accordance with the approved conditions and requirements.
