Doha, Qatar: Al Emadi Model Educational Centre continues to hold its weekly “Educational Thursday” programme, offering a range of Quranic, educational and cultural activities aimed at strengthening Islamic values and helping young people make constructive use of their time.

The programme has been held regularly since the beginning of the year during the evening period, from after Asr prayer until shortly before Maghrib prayer, with the participation of around 40 Qatari and resident students.

The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ ongoing efforts, represented by the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance, to strengthen young people’s connection with the Holy Quran and help develop balanced, faith-centred personalities.

The weekly activities are a key component of the centre’s year-round educational and Quranic programmes. They seek to provide an engaging environment combining Islamic education, behavioural guidance and purposeful recreation, while helping students develop their knowledge, skills and positive values.

The “Educational Thursday” programme begins with Quran memorisation and revision sessions, which form a central part of the initiative. Students spend 30 minutes in Quran circles presenting passages they have memorized and reviewing their assigned portions.

The sessions emphasize continuous revision as an essential component of maintaining proficiency and consistency in Quran memorisation. They also help students develop discipline, commitment and regular study habits.

The weekly programme also features an “Educational Guests” segment, during which the centre hosts specialists and figures involved in educational and Islamic outreach work to broaden students’ knowledge and strengthen Islamic values and positive behaviour.

As part of the programme, the centre hosted Islamic preacher Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Bakri remotely for a lecture titled “Why Do We Memorize the Quran?”. The lecture explored the status of the Holy Quran and its role in shaping the Muslim personality, as well as the importance of memorising and regularly reviewing it. Al-Bakri also presented practical methods and experiences to help students improve their memorization and maintain consistency.

The session was well received by participants, providing educational guidance and practical advice that encouraged them to continue memorising the Quran and develop their revision and learning skills.

The programme also includes a cultural competition, one of the students’ popular interactive activities. It combines entertainment and learning in a positive competitive atmosphere while testing participants’ general, Islamic and cultural knowledge.

The programmes align with the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to strengthen religious values, reinforce Islamic identity and nurture a generation committed to the Holy Quran and its teachings
