Dar Al Sharq to hold 8th Labour, Workers Conference on Sunday

Doha: Under the patronage of Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri and with the support of the Qatar Chamber, Dar Al Sharq will hold its 8th Labour and Workers Conference on Sunday (June 19, 2022) in Bin Jelmood House - Msheireb Museums.

The conference comes before the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 under a theme ‘A Closer Look and an Impact Beyond the World Cup’.

The opening ceremony will be addressed by Qatar Chamber First Vice Chairman Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari.

The conference that was held first time in 2014 addressed the rights and conditions of workers during these years and kept pace with legislative developments and administrative procedures made by Qatar in order to improve the conditions of workers contributing infrastructure development projects of Qatar.

Several prestigious entities in the country, including the Ministry of Labour, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), the National Human Rights Committee, Qatar Lawyers Association and Qatar University, in addition to leaders of Asian and African expatriate communities will participate in the conference.

The conference is sponsored by leading companies, namely Msheireb Properties, Ezdan Holding and Al Dar Exchange.

The 7th edition of Worker’s Book entitled ‘Historical Testimonies’ will be launched at the opening ceremony of the conference. 

The book is a panorama that examined the reports of international organizations and then cited testimonies from European parliaments, newspapers, media outlets and international organizations lauding the achievements made in the rights and conditions of workers in Qatar during past 10 years.

According to the conference organisers, a number of official figures, ambassadors, diplomats, company heads and lawyers will attend the conference. 

The speakers includes Vice President of Qatar Lawyers Association Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali bin Saud Al Thani, Director of Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Eng. Abdullah Al Bishri, Head of Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Ministry of Labour Zayed Suhail Al Mazrouei, Professor of Journalism, College of Arts, Qatar University Dr. Abdul Muttalib Makki.

A number of leaders of expatriate communities will also participate in the conference such as Mohamed Ramadan from Nepalese community, Santosh Kumar from Indian community, Sahid Kazem from Nigerian community and Rasul Amin from Bangladesh community.

Deputy CEO of Dar Al Sharq, Jaber Al Harami said: “We are pleased that Dar Al Sharq has continued to hold this conference for eight consecutive years.”

He said that all conferences were under the kind patronage of the Ministry of Labour, which created a strategic partnership to keep pace with developments in this regard.

“We are also pleased that the efforts made by all state agencies and business organisations resulted in a situation that was globally praised,” said Al Harami.

He said that the conference will be held this year to send a message to all local and international parties that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be hosted in an atmosphere of enthusiasm from all citizens and residents of Qatar, including the workers who have completed stadiums and infrastructure that have become a source of pride for all.
