DOHA: Ooredoo will launch an updated Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) service that gives subscribers the ability to track and monitor their assets and people — the Automatic Vehicle Location Service (AVLS).
The TETRA network has grown into one of the largest commercially-available of its kind. The service has been in operation since 2005, offering secure communications channels and full redundancy in terms of base station coverage. The upgrade aims to enhance the TETRA platform and evolve it towards a fully Machine-2-Machine-compliant service.
AVLS offers a map application for logistics and operational centres, providing  monitoring, alarm and control functions with map functionality. It is used to track the location of vehicles and TETRA users are equipped with a GPS-enabled TETRA radio. The system displays the location of people and vehicles on a graphical map based on GPS information. The dispatcher can perform actions using the map, such as calling individuals or groups on the map by touching it.
TETRA services are providing businesses with reliable communications and mobile radio applications. In addition to enabling one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many communications, the network enables businesses to subscribe to TETRA applications systems, including Computer-Aided Dispatcher (TCAD) with Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), Voice Recording (TVR) and Playback (TPC) clients. TETRA services include a portfolio of communications services, with a 24-hour helpline. The Peninsula
