Doha: The “Made with Our Hands” Fair, sponsored by the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) and organised by the Educational Centre for the Handicapped and Girls Rehabilitation Centre at the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN), opened on Monday at the Al Ruwaq Ballroom of the Doha Mariott Hotel. The fair, which is open until tomorrow, was inaugurated by QSRSN Board Member Taleb Afifa in the presence of high-ranking QSRSN officials and special needs specialists, stakeholders and parents.
“We are delighted to support the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs in this inauguration, and we hope to inspire other organisations to provide the much needed support for the association’s efforts to build a confident, balanced and cohesive society to cope with the diverse social challenges it faces” said Jabra Ghandour, Managing Director of IBQ.
“This edition marks the 15th annual fair in the history of QSRSN,” said Taleb Afifa. “We have seen so much development in the quality of the products created by the students specifically for this fair. It shows how it encourages students to be productive, depend on themselves and enhance their academic and artistic skills. QSRSN will keep supporting them mentally and emotionally by providing the space to prove their abilities,” added Afifa.
Numaat Majthoub, supervisor of the centres organising the fair, pointed out that “Made with Our Hands” features QSRSN students’ art and craftwork ranging from tailoring and dressmaking to painting and recycling, which supervisors are keen to teach students using the materials available in their surroundings. Funded by IBQ, the centre purchases raw materials and provides the required fabrication and recycling tools.
The “Made with Our Hands” fair showcased QSRSN students’ creations that reflected their abilities, talents and skills, all the while highlighting the potential to recycle materials in their creations to protect the environment.
