Qatar’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) witnessed a marginal increase of 0.29 percent in April compared to the previous month (March 2022), reaching at 101.77 points.
When compared on annual basis, the consumer prices in Qatar (as per the general CPI index) in April have also increased by 4.66 percent compared to the CPI of the same month in 2021, data released by Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show.
A month-on-month analysis of the CPI for April 2022 compared with CPI of March 2022, showed that there were five main groups, where respective indices in this month have increased, namely: “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 1.66 percent, “Restaurants and Hotels” by 1.57 percent, “Clothing and Footwear” by 1.28 percent, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 1.21 percent, and “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 0.94 percent.
A decrease has been recorded on “Communication” by 1.04 percent, “Food and Beverages” by 0.83 percent, “Transport” by 0.45 percent, “Recreation and Culture” by 0.19 percent, and “Health” by 0.05 percent.
“Tobacco” and “Education” had remained flat at last month’s price level.
A comparison of the CPI for April 2022 with the CPI of April 2021 showed an increase has been recorded in the general index (CPI) by 4.66 percent.
This year-on-year price increase was primary due to the prices rising in eight groups namely: “Recreation and Culture” by 35.25 percent, followed by “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 5.49 percent, “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 3.75 percent, “Food and Beverages” by 3.59 percent, “Clothing and Footwear” by 2.44 percent, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 1.40 percent, “Education” by 0.42 percent, and “Transport” by 0.15 percent.
While a decrease has been shown in price levels in “Health” by 3.14 percent, “Restaurants and Hotels” by 0.98 percent, and “Communication” by 0.64 percent. No change was recorded on “Tobacco”.
The CPI of April 2022, excluding “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” group stood at 104.51 points, recording an increase of 0.14 percent, when compared to the index of March 2022, and an increase of 4.88 percent when compared to the CPI of April 2021.
