Tokyo: Toyota Motor said Sunday it would suspend the assembly of vehicles in stages in Japan because of car parts shortages caused by two large earthquakes that hit the island of Kyushu.
The world's largest automaker released a statement to the press today and said it would shut down production at a plant in Kyushu tomorrow. The statement added that other plants will follow starting Friday.
The company said the resumption of operations will be subject to the availability of parts.
An earthquake had hit the island on Thursday, killing and injuring dozens of people.
