Geneva: The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, HE Dr. Hend bint Abdalrahman Al Muftah participated in a meeting of the Support Group of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva.
In her remarks, Her Excellency affirmed that the State of Qatar, as the host country of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2028, looks forward to ensuring that this important global gathering is successful, impactful, and inclusive. She noted that the platform comes at a highly critical moment, as the world faces increasingly complex and interconnected risks, ranging from climate-related hazards to technological and biological challenges, which makes the need to strengthen disaster risk reduction more urgent than ever.
She pointed out that convening the platform just two years before the conclusion of the implementation period of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2030 makes it a pivotal opportunity to assess progress achieved, accelerate implementation, and reinforce global solidarity.
She explained that the State of Qatar's contribution extends beyond its strong political commitment and includes its extensive experience in hosting major multilateral events, providing logistical and technical services, and organising conferences at the highest level.
Her Excellency stressed that the country's facilities, infrastructure, and organisational capacities have demonstrated their readiness at the highest standards through hosting global, diplomatic, and development gatherings.
She affirmed the State of Qatar's full preparedness to organise an event that meets the expectations of Member States and stakeholders, and to provide a safe, accessible, and well-connected environment in Doha capable of hosting a vibrant and diverse global platform.
She further stated that, in preparation for the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2028, the State of Qatar's vision is firmly grounded in partnership and cooperation.
She highlighted its determination to work in close coordination with UNDRR, Member States, regional organisations, civil society, the private sector, and scientific partners, to ensure that the platform serves as a catalyst for practical solutions, knowledge exchange, and the adoption of scalable approaches that support countries in reducing disaster risks and enhancing resilience.
