DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has launched a survey seeking feedback from private investors on the ministry’s initiative to allot 10 plots of land for private schools.

The plots are spread over Al Wakra, Al Rayyan and Al Khor municipalities.

The Ministry has invited interested investors to participate in the survey that is being conducted through a questionnaire containing more than 10 questions. The purpose of the survey is to develop a clear vision, idea and mechanism for developing and utilising the plots, the Ministry said yesterday.

Participants have been asked to provide their contact address, share their experience in education (if available), give their views, ideas and suggestions in written form.

The Technical Committee to Stimulate Private Sector Participation in Economic Development Projects at the Ministry said that it is seeking investors’ views and suggestions on how to invest in these projects, the type of educational projects they are planning to establish, target group of students (co-education or single-sex), time needed to develop designs, construction and conditions needed to be fulfilled by developers and investors.

The committee is also keen to know what kind of contributions to the projects are expected from different government bodies concerned to provide excellent educational services and ensure the quality standards set by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The poll includes questions related to cost of construction, school operation, economic feasibility, funds and means of marketing educational services in addition to questions related to educational programmes, capacities of the schools, extra-curricular activities and the estimated tuition fees.

The poll which started yesterday will continue for a month and tenders for the projects will be invited after analyzing its findings and outcomes.

Interested investors have been asked to register for the tender through the address provided with the questionnaire, although tenders will not be restricted to the registered investors, said the committee.

Each of the plots will have an area of 15,000 sqm and the initiative is taken in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, said the technical committee in a statement.

The committee comprises representatives from different ministries and government bodies concerned.
