Doha, Qatar: The Turkish Embassy in Doha marked the ‘15 July Democracy and National Unity Day,’ yesterday commemorating the 8th anniversary of the July 15 heinous coup attempt, to pay tribute to the martyrs and express gratitude to the veterans.
Turkish citizens, diplomatic corps, Qatari brothers and foreigners residing in Qatar participated in the event.
Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to the State of Qatar, H E Dr. M. Mustafa Goksu, and Armed Forces Attaché at the Embassy Col. Ali Cetin, delivered speeches on the occasion.
During the event, a message from President of the Republic of Turkiye, H E Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the ‘15 July Democracy and National Unity Day’ was read.
Turkish journalist and writer Kemal Ozturk and Academic Prof. Dr. Kudret Bulbul participated as keynote speakers to share their experiences on the FETÖ-led coup attempt and its reflections during the event.
The event also welcomed Dilek Yaşar and Veysel Yaşar, parents of Seher Yaşar, a policewoman who was martyred in Ankara on July 15 2016 while on duty at Special Operation Forces.
A short-video prepared by the Directorate of Communication of Turkiye and an informative slide-show was screened during the event.
Furthermore, an exhibition comprising of photos taken by Anadolu Agency (AA) showcased to guests depicting what happened on the night of the July 15 coup attempt.
On the margins of the 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day, Turkish Embassy organized several events in addition to the aforementioned commemoration ceremony.
The events included a press briefing held for Qatari media members on what happened on July 15 and its aftermath; and a panel titled “15 July Coup Attempt Through the Eyes of Academics, Journalists and Victims” organised by the collaboration of the embassy and Doha Yunus Emre Institute with the participation of Dilek Yasar, Veysel Yasar, Ozturk, and Prof. Dr. Bulbul.
Another panel titled “Arab Media and 15 July Coup Attempt” was held by the collaboration of the embassy and Doha Yunus Emre Institute with the participation of Zein Elabadin Tawfik who is a journalist and a TV presenter at Al Jazeera Network.
Also a commemoration ceremony was held at Turkiye-Qatar Combined Joint Task Force Command. The images of President H E Erdogan and Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, were screened in symbolic Qatari buildings on the margin of 15 July coup attempt.
Turkish Embassy is also hosting the Ambassadors of African countries resident in Qatar today at a brunch at the Embassy, which will provide an opportunity to exchange information and experience on fight against FETÖ and its activities in the continent.
