UNITED NATIONS: The US yesterday circulated a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to endorse the Iran nuclear deal but retain an arms embargo and ban on ballistic missile technology, said diplomats ahead of a likely vote next week.
US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power briefed the 15-member council on the draft document behind closed doors.
In return for lifting sanctions, Iran has agreed to long-term curbs on a nuclear programme the West suspected aimed to create an atomic bomb.
However, Tehran says the programme is peaceful.
The seven-page draft states that the seven previous UN resolutions on Iran will be terminated when International Atomic Energy Agency submits a report verifying Tehran has implemented certain nuclear-related measures.
