Doha: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), will host the first Global Youth Consultation for the United Nation’s World Humanitarian Summit (WHS).
The consultation on September 1 and 2 will bring together over 100 youth in 18-30 age group from around the world, including 50 men and women from Qatar.
ROTA believes in the importance of unlocking human potential as well as development and power of human capacities in line with the human and social development pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Sharing the view that youth must be recognised as critical actors in rethinking the global humanitarian architecture, ROTA is using its expertise, knowledge and resources to ensure youth are given this opportunity on the global stage.
Essa Al Mannai, Executive Director, ROTA, said: “ROTA believes that young people worldwide must be recognised as critical players in rethinking the global humanitarian architecture.
“We are proud that ROTA, representing Qatar, is hosting the event where promising young people will reshape the world with their dreams and ambitions.
“The event will address humanitarian needs in our fast-changing world from their perspective. ROTA aims to galvanise agreements on key priorities for adolescents and youth, share innovative youth-led initiatives and partnerships, provide a platform for the next generation to be heard, and inspire greater action and involvement of young people in humanitarian issues.”
The event will also provide opportunity for participants from Qatar to make their voices and opinions heard. They were selected under strict criteria and interviewed by ROTA’s Youth Advisory Board.
The board has been trained to interview delegates and empower their peers to take the event to new heights.
The summit was initiated by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to improve global disaster preparedness and response.
The consultation aims to shape the global youth position by gathering input from them on humanitarian challenges and solutions.
It will allow youth’s views to be incorporated into Ban’s report and recommendations for the summit to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, next year.
