DOHA: Qatar Airways (QA), in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Hamad International Airport, ran a three-day ‘Beat the Heat’ campaign at HIA.
The campaign, involving a mobile caravan staffed by medical advisers and distribution of leaflets and giveaways to employees, aimed to raise awareness among QA Group staff about safety measures to be taken at work during the summer heat, especially for those working outdoors.
Safety is of paramount importance for QA and the initiative is part of its commitment to provide employees and customers with a safe and healthy environment.
QA partnered with HMC for this year’s campaign. HMC began its five-year Health and Safety campaign, ‘Kulluna’, (‘All of us’) in 2012. This year, in conjunction with QA, it took place at HIA – the airline’s home and hub.
HMC staff conducted talks with QA staff in three languages about the do’s and don’ts during the summer and the importance of appropriate health and safety. They were also given care packages to help them stay safe during the summer heat.
Badr Mohammed Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer, HIA, said: “We are proud to be hosting the campaign along with QA and HMC at HIA. “‘Safety first’ is a policy we adhere to in our day-to-day operations and the campaign has given us the opportunity to speak directly to our staff and educate them on safety precautions during the summer; and who better to do this than HMC, the leading medical corporation in the country.”
QA Senior Vice-President, Group Safety & Security, Ashish Jain, said: “The continual and ongoing safety of our staff is of paramount importance for QA and we are delighted to have partnered with HMC and HIA for this proactive initiative. By focusing on staff education, we can ensure that our team understand key issues and are able to take care of their health during the hot summer months.”
Dr Khalid Abdulnoor Saifeldeen, Chairman, Kulluna, said the campaign, now in third year, had been successful in raising awareness about precautionary measures to ensure safe working conditions for those who spend a large part of their working day outside during the summer period.
“We are happy to be collaborating with QA and HIA in supporting their efforts to ensure safety and wellbeing of their employees during summer time.
“Kulluna encourages the public to stay sufficiently hydrated throughout their working day and advises them on sun-protective clothing and use of shaded areas for respite from the direct sun.”
