Qatar Red Crescent has announced the launch of a charity campaign aimed at mobilising support to build “Hayatı Sehir” City for the orphaned students who were affected by the earthquake in Turkiye and other orphans around the world, in Istanbul, Turkiye, in order to meet their basic needs and provide an environment full of care and attention that guarantees their human dignity.

The announcement was made during a press conference held by Qatar Red Crescent at its headquarters, in the presence of Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi, Acting Secretary-General of the Qatar Red Crescent, Ayedh Dabsan Al Qahtani, Head of the “Hayatı Sehir” Project, and Jaber Al Harami, Editor-in-Chief of Al Sharq Newspaper, the media partner of the campaign, as well as several directors and officials from Qatar Red Crescent.

The humanitarian initiative aims to provide a safe, comprehensive, fully equipped, and sustainable shelter for children who have lost their parents in the earthquake in Turkiye, and other orphans from several countries around the world, to alleviate their suffering and enhance their effective integration into the community, thus contributing to building their capacities and improving their communities.

Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi noted that this project comes in the aftermath of the earthquakes that hit Syria and Turkiye in February, and the ongoing suffering of millions of affected people, especially orphaned children who lost their parents and relatives during the disaster.

The Qatar Red Crescent will work to implement its project in cooperation with relevant organizations in Turkiye. Cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Education and Coordination with the Istanbul Municipality and the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) will be established as an implementing partner, by appointing experienced engineers to manage all implementation activities, which will take place over two phases under the supervision of the Qatar Red Crescent office in Turkiye.

Dr. Ayedh Dabsan Al Qahtani said: “This project seeks to build an integrated city that accommodates about 1200 orphans affected by the earthquake and other orphans around the world and is expected to be built within 24 months. We look forward to laying the foundation stone for its construction this year”.

On his part, Jaber Salem Al Harmi expressed his delight in being part of this charitable project and this integrated city for orphans.

He said: “Through Al Sharq Newspaper and Dar Al-Sharq Group, we always seek to be partners in the sectors. We are with the brothers in the Qatar Red Crescent, who have clear fingerprints in many qualitative works.”
