The agreement, which was signed by QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad and NCPW Chairman Major General Staff Pilot Nasser bin Mohammed Al Ali, will establish a joint team to study the extent of the application of the laws and regulations pertaining to chemical, biological and nuclear safety and security in Qatar and prepare reports in this regard.
The event was attended by officials of the NCPW including Prof Karimeldin Abdelaziz Eladham, radiation expert; Prof Salwan Kamal Jamil Al Ani, radiation expert; and Ahmed Ismail Afifi, legal expert. Also in attendance were top officials of Qatar University. QU and the Committee will liaise to organise annual debates for students on the conventions, to advance their knowledge on the issue of weapons of mass destruction and the ability to articulate their positions in this regard.
The Committee may also facilitate the students’ periodic inclusion in the NCPW delegations in representing Qatar at the annual conferences in which signatory countries to the chemical and biological weapons conventions participate.
QU students will also benefit from summer internships with the Committee to participate in training and awareness workshops to be oriented on the key issues. QU students will also be encouraged to work on graduation theses focusing on the national, regional and international role in the conventions, and in supporting international peace and safety.
“It is incumbent on QU to expose its students to issues of international impact and to provide them with the opportunities to better understand the national and regional perspectives that attend the strategies and approaches of the various countries of the Gulf and Middle East”, said Prof Al Misnad.
