QBF unveils new design for Amir Basketball Cup

Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has unveiled a new design and upgraded format for the H H the Amir Basketball Cup 2025–2026 season, signalling a fresh push to elevate one of Qatar’s most prestigious domestic basketball competitions.

The announcement was made at a press conference yesterday at the Federation headquarters, attended by Secretary General Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari alongside strong media representation.

Al-Kuwari confirmed a major rise in prize money, with the champions to receive QR1.5m and runners-up QR 900,000.

He said the enhanced rewards reflect the Federation’s ambition to raise competitive standards and increase the tournament’s overall appeal amid rising interest in basketball in Qatar. He added that the new edition is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local competitions and encourage higher performance levels across clubs.

The tournament began yesterday with Qatar Club playing Al Khor at the Federation Hall in a qualifying round clash for a place in the quarter-finals.

Action continues on April 18 and 19. The semi-finals are set for May 4, before the competition concludes with the final on May 6 at 6:30pm.
