Boumerzaz Cemetery Mosque
Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has inaugurated the Boumerzaz Cemetery Mosque in the Boumerzaz area, located along Al Mazrouah Road, west of Umm Salal Ali, as part of its strategic plan to expand mosque infrastructure and enhance religious facilities across the country.
The initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and responds to ongoing urban growth and population increases.
The newly opened mosque stands on a vast land area of 250,559 square metres and bears the name of Abdullah bin Jahsh bin Riab Al-Asadi. Established as a waqf by the General Directorate of Endowments, the mosque is envisioned as a centre for worship, remembrance, and Qur’an recitation, serving both residents of the surrounding area and visitors to Boumerzaz Cemetery.
Classified as a grand mosque (No. M.S. 1444), Boumerzaz Cemetery Mosque features a main prayer hall accommodating up to 2,000 worshippers, alongside a dedicated women’s prayer hall with capacity for 200, bringing total capacity to 2,200 worshippers.
The mosque includes seven entrances distributed across different sides to ensure smooth movement, particularly during peak times. It also features a spacious ablution area and a prominent minaret reflecting Islamic architectural identity.
Accessibility has been carefully considered, with designated entrances for people with disabilities and an organised layout for safe and efficient access.
The mosque complex includes a wide range of integrated service facilities designed to meet both religious and humanitarian needs, particularly given its location within a cemetery.
Among its annexes are two separate imam residences and dedicated accommodation for the muezzin, ensuring stability for mosque staff and continuity in delivering religious services.
An administrative building, supervised by the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance, oversees burial-related services including washing of the deceased and cemetery management, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality. This supports operational efficiency and ensures services are delivered according to approved standards.
A fully equipped mortuary building is also part of the complex, comprising six rooms for washing male bodies and six for female bodies. These facilities have been designed in line with religious, health, and privacy requirements to provide this essential service with dignity and organisation.
To accommodate families and visitors, the mosque includes separate condolence halls and restroom facilities for men and women, ensuring a suitable environment for receiving mourners and handling large gatherings.
The complex also provides dedicated accommodation for workers, consisting of 10 rooms, 10 bathrooms, two halls, and two kitchens. This supports continuous service delivery and on-site maintenance operations.
More than 600 parking spaces have been allocated, including designated spaces for people with disabilities. A comprehensive traffic system ensures ease of access and safety for both worshippers and visitors to Boumerzaz Cemetery.
