Booklets on food safety being distributed to customers as part of the Gulf Food Day, yesterday.
Qatar yesterday marked the Gulf Food Day which falls on April 15 every year. The Ministry of Municipality and Environment organised lectures and distributed a number of booklets on food safety among residents on the occasion.
Also, an educational exhibition for primary school students on food safety and nutrition was held at the Doha Municipality and received many students for this occasion.
The event focused on increasing awareness among consumers about food products available in the market and the safe way of handling them.
The theme of the event was "seven steps to maintain food safety" and aimed at teaching people steps to prevent food-borne illnesses. The seven steps include: Consumers must check food labeling cards; check food before purchase; all fresh products (fruits or vegetables) must be cleaned before eating; meat, poultry and fish must be stored far away from other items.
Consumers were encouraged to check and assess the risk of defective products like dented, rusty and blown cans, food without expiry date or fruits and vegetables with signs of deterioration.
