The Bengali community in Qatar celebrated “Pohela Boishakh” or Bengali New Year at Salata Park, Doha. The community members arrived to celebrate the colorful day wearing their traditional dresses. “Pohela Boishakh” is the first day of the Bengali Calendar.
Pohela Boishakh is also known as Bengali New Year and it is celebrated on April 14. Traditionally, Bengali people celebrate the first day of Bangla New Year collectively irrespective of their faith or caste. With every passing year, the celebration is becoming the biggest celebration of Bengali people and “Pohela Boishakh” this year was celebrated with more significance after the “Mongol Shobhajatra” (blessing rally) was inscribed on the Unesco’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in November last year.
