Whoever his opponents will be in the coming 2016 presidential elections, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay remains focused on delivering services to the people, his camp said Thursday.
Bonay spokesman Rico Quicho issued the statement as results of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) presidential preference survey showed that potential “presidentiable” Senator Grace Poe has inched closer to Binay’s popularity-level even though the country’s second highest official remained as the top contender to succeed President Benigno S. Aquino III.
“The Vice President is focused on the task at hand and would continue to provide his kind of leadership and performance whoever will be the other presidential aspirants,” he said.
Binay got 36 percent in the survey conducted from March 20-23, one percentage point lower than the 37 percent rating he received in the December 2014 survey.
Although Poe has yet to declare her plans for 2016, the daughter of the late movie icon Fernando Poe Jr.’s survey rating has surged to 31 percent, from just 21 percent in December.
The survey also showed that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, former President (now Manila Mayor) Joseph Estrada, Senator Francis Escudero, Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, and former Senate President Manuel Villar are also being considered by Filipinos as Aquino’s possible successor.
