DOHA: Minister of Labour and Social Affairs H E Dr Abdullah bin Saleh Al Khulaifi will open the conference being held by Al Sharq, the sister concern of The Peninsula in connection with the launch of its second Workers Book on May 3.
The event under the patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani will mark International Workers Day observed on May 3 every year. It will take place at Torch Hotel at Aspire Zone.
Al Sharq launched the first edition of the book last May .
This year the book will include important reports prepared by government bodies like the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, Qatar Foundation and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and international human rights organisations. The book will also include reports by local and international bodies on the initiatives, achievements and efforts carried out by these entities to improve the living and working conditions of expatriate workers in Qatar. The reports will be under the title ‘Progress Achieved’. Representatives of international organisations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International are expected to participate in discussions at the conference.
