Qatar University (QU) yesterday hosted a visit by the Minister of Education of the Republic of Tunisia, Dr Neji Jalloul, during which he gave a lecture on “The Development in the Field of Education”.
The Minister was welcomed by QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham, VPs, deans, heads of departments, faculty, and over 80 female students from QU College of Education (CED).
In her welcome remarks, CED Acting Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Prof Aisha Fakhro welcomed Dr Neji Jalloul saying: “An effective education system plays a pivotal role in the growth and progress of societies and the development of human capacities through building future generations who are equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to become the nation’s future leaders.”
Dr Neji Jalloul highlighted the importance of education in the humanisation and the personal development of students, as well as the crucial role of educators in equipping students with the principles of values and ethics.
He noted that the Tunisian educational system is undergoing a reform process with the aim to equip educators in general and educators at elementary level in particular with the necessary teaching competencies and the understanding of the students’ needs. “We have established an Applied License in Education and a 2-year MBA programme that both contribute to the development of educators at the theoretical and practical levels.”
He added: “We have also established the National Center for the Training of Trainers in Education that supervises the development and training process in all teaching frameworks.”
Dr Neji Jalloul also stressed the importance of incorporating civic education and social sciences in the teaching curriculum to promote the spirit of citizenship among students.
