With participation of 1,600 competitors from 12 Arab countries, the 10th Arab Open Robotics Championship will kick off on Sunday, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in cooperation with Arab Robotics Association.
The event will take place at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) and will be hosted by Qatar for the second time. The aim of the championship is to shed light on talents and capabilities of students interested in areas of engineering, technology and mathematics, said Mariam Al Awadi, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, adding involvement of such students in challenges of meeting in team helps them to develop their skills. It is a golden opportunity for our students to share experiences with students from different Arab states, Al Awadi added yesterday during a press conference held om the side line of the Education Conference 2017 at QNCC.
The championship will take place between March 19 and 21 and will host 60 teams of Arab students, Al Awadi outlined.
For his part Ismail Shams, Vice-Chairman of Arab Robotics Association pointed out that since its establishment, the association seeks to lay foundation for Arab robotics industry but to reach this stage we need to create generations interested in technology and maintain the command of dealing with this technology.
This year the championship includes seven competition, each of which has type and certain age categories. For instance the contest of Jr. FLL is for age ranging between 6-10, FLL for age of 9-16 years old, Line Tracking for age of 9-13, Sumo for age of 14-23, Ball Collector for 12-25 years old students, The Open Arab Robotics for age 14 and above and finally FTC is for ages 14-17.
The press conference was also attended by Hamad Marhab, Media Director at the Minsitry of Education and Higher Education.
Several judging committees from experienced and accredited experts, will be formed for different contests and the organizing committee will select four chairpersons as heads for committees judging the competitions of FLL. Qatar as host country will also chair some of the committees.
Among the participating teams are teams which have won international competitions such as the Lebanon team Fast & Curious in the world championship of First Lego League 2015.
