Doha: Ooredoo has announced the conclusion of another tournament in the Ooredoo Arena series organised under its eSports brand, Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land.
The Ooredoo Arena PUBG Mobile tournament took place from January 5-8, 2022, with the event being live-streamed on Ooredoo tv and various social media platforms. With more than 1,800 players and 450 teams, the tournament had an overall reach of over 10 million.
Nigma Galaxy were the overall winners and the top four teams - Nigma Galaxy, Yalla Esports, Twisted Minds and Panic – shared a generous prize fund, with the total prize money awarded so far across all tournaments an impressive QR200,000. Gamers were also competing for the chance to secure a contract with the Ooredoo professional eSports team, which will represent Ooredoo and Qatar in regional and global eSports events.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani, CEO at Ooredoo, said: “The establishment of Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land and Ooredoo Arena is in alignment with the Digital element of our corporate strategy, a key aim of which is to explore new, previously unaddressed areas in order to drive top-line growth. It forms part of a slew of enhancements to Ooredoo’s service intended to propel digital transformation, including the digitalisation of the Nojoom loyalty programme, the provision of extra data to customers and enhancing the Ooredoo App to enable ever more digital touchpoints via which customer interactions can take place.”
He added: “As a leading telecommunications and ICT operator in the region, we are proud to be pioneers in eSports, a field that is gaining exponentially in both popularity and visibility. Ooredoo Arena offers our customers an exciting platform upon which they can showcase their skills and enjoy their gaming, and it enhances the capabilities of young people to come together and show their talents in this digital field, which is consistent with the company’s strategy. We are proud that our own eSports brand is highlighting the potential of eSports in such a prominent way, and look forward to continued development of both our offering and of the eSports scene in the region.”
