A Qatari calligrapher will write the Holy Quran by hand in a pioneering initiative launched by the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara. This was announced by Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti at a press conference yesterday at Katara Amphitheater.
“This project counts as a noble initiative that requires massive amount of skill, creativity, and accuracy. The Holy Quran will entail sophisticated script artistically written on handmade paper comprising the use of Islamic art of calligraphy and fascinating use of colours. This is the first time a Qatari calligrapher will write the Holy Quran,” said Al Sulaiti.
Qatari calligrapher Rashid Mubarak Al Muhannadi (pictured) was chosen by a special selection committee for this upcoming Katara initiative. An accomplished artist and calligrapher, Al Muhannadi is known for his remarkable calligraphic skill demonstrated through his works which have been featured in a number of exhibitions in the country.
Katara has partnered with Qatar TV to document the various stages of the project which is expected to be completed within two years, he said.
